Learn About Library Access and Borrowing Privileges for Guests

As a public institution, UC San Diego Library provides access to Library facilities and and checkout of physical items.

 

The UC San Diego Library offers a number of ways for members of the community to access our collections.

Access to Library Facilities

All members of the community are welcome to visit the Geisel Library and WongAvery Library to use onsite collections during our service hours. Access to group study rooms, login workstations, and overnight study is restricted to current UC San Diego students, faculty, and staff.

Materials Checkout

Sometimes you want to take things home, and we have a path for that too! UC San Diego Library is part of the San Diego Circuit, a consortium of San Diego area libraries that share materials. If you have a San Diego Public or County Library card you can request materials from UC San Diego be sent to the Public or County library branch of your choice, for FREE.
Most items in the UC San Diego Library collection are available for request from your local public or county library FREE using Circuit.

Direct checkout with a courtesy library card is also available with registration and verification of affiliation for the following groups:

Online access from off-campus to UC San Diego Library-licensed materials is not included with a library borrowing card.

Visiting from Another UC?

If you are a current student, faculty, or staff member from a different UC, your home library privileges will work here too! Speak with a friendly staff member in the Service Hub if you have any questions.
