UC Library Search is the best place to start when you are trying to find library resources. It contains most of the resources to which the library provides access. However, there are other options depending on what type of resource you are looking for.

Find books

Use UC Library Search to find books and other resources. If you need assistance locating a book on the shelf, text Help Now at 858-879-6451. You can Learn about Other Ways to Access Books.

Find scholarly articles

If you are looking for scholarly articles including peer reviewed articles, you can search in a General, interdisciplinary article database like:

For in-depth, subject-focused articles, many of which are peer-reviewed, you can search subject-specific databases. A list of databases by subject area or department may be found using the subject filter on our Databases A-Z page. You may also find a curated selection on the UC San Diego Library subject guides (curated by our librarians).  Most of these databases primarily focus on scholarly articles and books, although you may also find magazine articles and peer-reviewed items with no bibliography.

Article Tips

  • Use the Ulrich’s Periodical Directory database to search for a journal with this icon Black and white striped jersey next to it to see if it is peer reviewed/refereed.
  • Use the gold and blue Get it at UC button Get it at UC to find the pdf or full text if not included in the database.

Find Newspapers

The Newspaper Research Guide can assist you in finding regional, national, and international newspapers such as the San Diego Union Tribune, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, and Washington Post. UC San Diego offers access to the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and Financial Times. These require signing up for a personalized account via UCSD AD authentication.

Find Journals, Magazines and Newspapers in Print
